Alpina watches - Starting new
The history of the Swiss watch manufacturer Alpina began more than a century ago. In 1883, Gottlieb Hauser founded the company Alpina Union Horlogerie S.A. in Biel. The businessman's original aim was to exchange components and accessories with other watchmakers, thus creating a large trading network. His passion for timepieces led to the registration of the Alpina trademark in 1901. The product range grew rapidly, and 20 years later the company's timepieces were available in over 2,000 shops. A milestone in the company's history followed in 1938 with the launch of the "Alpina 4". The number stands for four essential characteristics of the timepiece, which were indispensable for its operation: Shockproof, anti-magnetic, high-quality finish and water-resistant. An almost indestructible wristwatch, but with a design and precision that can also be worn as a piece of jewellery.
During the quartz crisis of the 1970s, there were no buyers and the company was almost forgotten. It was not until more than three decades later that Peter Stas, the founder of the Frederique Constant brand, discovered the company and gave new life into it in 2002. Since then, the company has once again been producing its own watches and calibres, as well as pieces bought in from other brands. The Startimer Pilot, Seastrong Diver and Alpiner series represent only a small part of the company's repertoire. The company does not shy away from developing digital watches such as the Horological Smartwatch. Alpina is particularly attached to extreme sports events, which it regularly supports and promotes.
Collections for all tastes
Over the years, Alpina has built up an impressive range of sporty quartz and automatic watches for men and women. Although the series remained faithful to the company's philosophy, there are many diverse models to suit every taste. Some collections are now among the Swiss watchmaker's flagships.
Retro enthusiasts will certainly appreciate the Alpina Startimer range. These timepieces are inspired by old pilot's watches. The timeless look of the models can be enhanced with an optional integrated chronograph, giving the watch a more sophisticated feel and making you feel like a real pilot.
For those who prefer the element of water to air, the Alpina Seastrong Divercollection holds wonderful pieces. These quality diving watches are water-resistant to a depth of 300 metres and, combined with the unidirectional rotating bezel, will keep you on the move even at the bottom of the sea.
An Alpiner model is a tribute to the Alpina 4, which was launched more than 80 years ago. Like its predecessor, it is water-resistant, anti-magnetic, shock-resistant and has a stainless steel case. However, the new edition offers a much wider range of design options. The AlpinerX's additional features and functions, such as an optional date display or GMT function, add a modern touch to this timeless classic.
Sporty robustness on your wrist
When you buy an Alpina timepiece, you get a dynamic sports watch with a quartz or automatic movement that will never let you down, even in extreme situations. The most advanced calibres in the company's range are housed in extremely robust, round cases made from high-quality materials such as brushed stainless steel. The dials, available in black, dark blue or white, ensure that the time can be read day or night. With a built-in chronograph, available on some models, you can press a button to precisely stop the time or read additional information such as the date from the counters. The design of Alpina watches is rounded off by a layer of sapphire crystal, which is particularly scratch-resistant and will give your ladies' or men's watch a long life. Whether you want your watch to accompany you to a fancy party or a scuba dive: The models are available with a wide range of straps for every occasion. Textile, metal, plastic or genuine leather straps are all available to ensure a comfortable fit on the wrist. The buckle or folding clasp ensures a secure fit at all times.
