From pocket watch to the radio-controlled: Tissot keeps the watch tradition alive
Tissot watches follow a long tradition and still keep up with time. During the early days in the 19th century, the company's product range consisted mostly of pocket watches. In 1853, the small watch manufacturer started as a family business consisting of father and son Tissot. At that time, Charles Félicien Tissot and later his son traveled as far as Russia and the USA to sell the time-measuring instruments that were the result of skilful craftsmanship.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Tissot expanded its range to include wristwatches, which were soon fitted with in-house produced movements. The merger with Omega in 1929 brought further innovations. From then on, in addition to watches with mechanical movements, Tissot also produced quartz watches, which were still quite new on the market at that time. Like many other Swiss brands, Tissot was hit hard by the quartz crisis in the 1970s. The company was only saved when it became part of the Swatch Group. Since then, things have been looking up again for Tissot and its timepieces.
In the course of its eventful history, Tissot proved more than once their intuition for the spirit of times and repeatedly demonstrated in their watches the ability to innovate and reinvent, be it the case made of titanium or a drive with solar. Always with an eye on its own roots, as the company's location alone makes clear. Since its foundation, Tissot has manufactured its watches in Le Locle. An apparent contradiction, which Tissot takes up in its guiding principle "Innovators by Tradition" and always takes to heart in its uncompromising timepieces. Today, the quality timepieces from Tissot impress all around the globe with their authentic, Swiss made style.
