Timepieces that stand the test of time: 100 years of Mido watches
In 1918, watchmaker Georges Schaeren laid the foundation stone for Mido watches in the Swiss town of Solothurn, at that time still under the name G. Schaeren & Cie. A few years later, he found support in his brother Henri, previously commercial director at Omega.
In its early days, Mido created watches whose appearance was inspired by the automobile industry and modelled on the car grille of well-known car brands. A little later, Art Deco served as a source of inspiration for Mido's men's and women's watches.
Mido demonstrated its innovative spirit in 1934 with the Multifort, which had four important features: anti-magnetic, shockproof, waterproof and self-winding. From 1940, Mido began to focus its attention on the production of waterproof watches. In 1954, they presented the Mido Ocean Star with the legendary single-shell case that revolutionized waterproof watches. With the smallest automatic watch from the assembly line, the Swiss watchmaker succeeded in 1967 with the next highlight. Mido also played a decisive role in the development of automatic and digital watches.
With the Bodyguard, Mido created a watch that lived up to its name and was equipped with an alarm system. From 1972, the watch factory belonged to Allgemeine Schweizerische Uhren AG. This later became the Swatch Group. In the meantime, Mido moved its headquarters to Le Locle in Switzerland.
Since the 2000s, Mido has visually returned to its roots and released watches to the market that pay homage to its earlier models and place architectural masterpieces at the centre of the design.
From the Eiffel Tower to the sea: the range of Mido collections
Timelessly beautiful and technologically refined: Mido watches are convincing in many ways. The manufacture has always combined attractive design with functionality. The ladies' and men's watches fascinate with their elegance, which is composed of high-quality materials. Wristbands made of fine leather, rubber or stainless steel hold the watches securely on the wrist. For the movement, Mido watches rely on ETA, which are further refined in Le Locle. Unadorned wristwatches come from Mido, as do watches with automatic movements and transparent case backs. Here you will find a selection of Mido watch collections:
Baroncelli: elegant Mido watches
The Baroncelli collection expresses all of Mido's expertise - watches of timeless beauty. With curved lines and exquisite details, Mido puts its special design stamp on these men's and ladies' watches. The models for the Swiss watch manufacturer were architectural monuments: A harmonious sight that decisively characterizes the Mido watches of the Baroncelli series.
Multifort: powerful Mido watches
With the Mido Multifort, the manufacturer is holding on to another historical series from its production. A powerful strength is inherent in these watches, inspired by the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The creative design of the dial with vertical depths, the so-called Geneva lines, is unparalleled. Thus, the wristwatches and chronographs of the Multifort collection tempt to adventures - even if it is only the daily walk through the urban jungle. The 3-hand watches of the Multifort series also turn out to be graceful beauties.
Commander: Chronographs from Mido
A Commander from Mido tells the time in a beautiful form. The source of inspiration for these Mido chronographs is none other than the Eiffel Tower. Just as it is impossible to imagine Paris without the Eiffel Tower, you will soon hardly want to miss this watch.
Ocean Star: Diving Watches from Mido
With the Ocean Star, Mido made history by developing the single-shell case on which the waterproof watches are based. The sea and the longing for it form the basis of these timepieces. The Ocean Star shows itself as the lighthouse of diving watches.
